Summary

What a tune this is! AC/DC have this magical ability to capture pure energy in a recording, and this song does exactly that. In this guitar lesson, we are focusing on the chords that are played in the song, and the rhythm used to capture that energy. We use a lot of open chords and open powerchord shapes, with a little bit of arpeggio strumming and a thick wad of gain on the amp. This song is of an intermediate level, but beginners can still get most of it together, so grab a cup of tea and let's get it learnt!

The Intro

In the intro section we are essentially using a G major to a D major chord. There are some cool little licks around these chords, which Ollie wlaks you through in detail in the video. It is important to remember, however, that this is just two chords played using the D shape CAGED chord position. You can also remember that around the D shape CAGED chord, you can use your pentatonic shape 4, as shown below.

The Verse

When we hit the verse we are simply using G major, C major and D major (As shown below). We can also substitute the C major for Cadd9 if you prefer the sound, or the ease of change. In the video, Ollie walks you through the exact order of these chords, and the very specific chord stabs that you need.

The Chorus

For the chorus we use similar chord shapes, but arpeggiate through them. This simply means that as well as strumming them, you can pick through indicdual notes of the chord. In this case, we have written up the chords below using the full shapes you should be playing (use the video for the exact notes that you need to arpeggiate!).
