CAN SKYPE GUITAR LESSONS EQUAL FACE TO FACE LESSONS?

Guitar Lessons

The simple answer, yes, but it's different.

We've been using Skype as a tool to provide online 1-2-1 sessions for many years now, and as the technology has improved around us, so have our Skype lessons. When answering the question of "can skype equal face to face lessons", we have to understand the differences between the two. It has got to a stage now where one isn't "better" than the other, as both provide differnet positives and negatives. Let's dive in and take a look.

Face to Face lessons

So, when it comes to face to face lessons there are of course many many reasons why this is considered the best! You are there in person with a professional tutor who can get a front row seat to every single aspect of your playing. They can quickly see when your hands are in the wrong place, they can hear when a note isn't quite right, and for may people, having a tutor physically be able to mould their hand into the correct position is invaluable. In fact, IF you have a quality guitar tutor in your area, you really should do that. So, are there any negatives? Well, yes. One major negative. What if you don't have a quality tutor in your area?

Skype Lessons

So, this brings us to Skype lessons... Or Google Hangout / Webinar... whatever platform you want to use! In recent years most people have a great quality HD camera built into their computer or laptop. Most have super fast internet, and we at Your Gutar Academy are set up with pro mics, audio interfaces and recording gear to ensure that you get a broadcast quality Skype lesson. This means that the age old argument, "I can't see what the tutor is doing properly" is no longer valid. We can even record every session so that you can watch it back later on in stunning HD and ensure that you don't miss a thing. That surely is a '+1' on face to face lessons.

On top of this, with Skype lessons you are able to have them from the comfort of your own home. No need to travel to a studio, which means your hard earned money and time is saved. You can have all of your gear set up, in a familiar playing environment, fire up the laptop and away you go. This makes for an even more comfortable experience and, due to this, many students find they play better in front of the tutor. So, again, this surely is '+1' for Skype lessons?

What should I choose?

So, in summary I think it would be fair to say that IF you have a YGA tutor close to you, go to their studio and learn face to face. However, if you don't and still want to same high quality learning experience, you are not sacrificing anything with our Skype lessons. You can even be more selective in choosing your tutor. Want someone who loves funk? Or maybe you are in to jazz and want a tutor that can handle all levels of such a tricky genre... Skype gives you that option. We have so many talented tutors ready and set up for Skype lessons that it's time that we stop thinking of it as a 'not quite as good' alternative to face to face lessons, and start realising that it's better in many ways.
